STANDARDS REGARDING FITNESS OF DUTY DURING WATCH KEEPING UNDER STCW95/2010.

1.      Watch keeping In Charge or rating shall be provided a minimum 10 hours of rest in 24 hour period.
2.     The hours of rest may be divided into not more than 2 periods, one of which shall be at least 6 hrs in length.
3.     The above requirement need not to adhere to in case of drill/emergency or any other over-riding operation.
4.     The minimum period of 10 hrs may be reduced to not less that 6 consecutive hours, provided that any such reduction shall not extend beyond 2 days and not less than 77 hrs. of rest in a seven day period.
5.     Administration requires that watch schedules be pasted where they are easily  accessible.
6.     The rest hours of seafarers on a daily basis should be written in a standardized format  in the language of the ship. And in English to allow monitoring & verification of compliance with these regulations.  A copy of this format, i.e. Rest hour Record will be endorsed by the Master and given to the seafarer for his own record.
7.     In case of UMS ships a Duty Engineer or any other authorized watch keeping engineer will, as far as possible, will be given compensatory off if the normal period of rest is disturbed by call-outs to work or to attend to various alarms.
8.     Exemptions from the weekly rest periods as stipulated above shall not be allowed for more than two consecutive  weeks.
9.     For alcohol abuse, a limit of not greater than 0.05% blood alcohol level (BAL) or 0.25 mg/liter alcohol in breath or quantity of alcohol leading to these results, has been stipulated or is to be allowed.
